What is a Facebook welcome tab, a Facebook welcome page?? And why should your business have one?
Simply put, a welcome tab is a specially-designed tab that visitors land on initially when they discover your page in Facebook.? This includes visitors who find your page by recommendation, by searching Facebook, or by surfing Google.
How to Choose a Tab for Visitors to Land On
As the page admin, you can choose which page visitors first see.? Click Edit Page and then choose Manage Permissions at left.? You will see a drop down for Default Landing Tab, shown in the screenshot below in yellow.? Just choose the page you prefer as your Facebook welcome page.
Why Should Your Landing Tab Be a Special Facebook Welcome Page?
Rich Brooks over at Flyte New Media names four good reasons why you should have a custom Facebook welcome tab.
He says that such a tab:
- ?Sets the stage? ? It orients a new visitor to your business, explaining who you are and what you do.
- ?Explains the benefit of liking your business? ? If you lay out the benefits, visitors are encouraged to Like your page.
- ?Extends your brand(ing)? ? This page reinforces your brand?s image, graphics, and personality.
- ?Shows that you take Facebook seriously? ? If your page looks active and professional, you will probably get more Fans.
Let?s look at Flyte?s own custom landing tab on Facebook, pictured in the top screenshot.? Rich orients new visitors to his page with a short video, explaining what his business does.? Both in the video and below it, he suggests the benefits:? free Q&A on web design or internet marketing and free related downloads.? He reinforces his brand by using his website logo as his Facebook logo.? He shows that Flyte practices what it preaches, that he is serious about Facebook.? And he now has me as a Fan.
Goals for Your Facebook Welcome Tab
Your Facebook landing tab should be aligned with your current marketing goals.? Often you might use your page to grow your Fan base.? However the tab can also be a platform to promote specific activities like contests or upcoming events or new products.? You might wish to use it to encourage links to other social media outposts like Twitter or Foursquare.? Or to facilitate sharing of the page with your Fan?s friends.
Ask yourself what one action you want visitors to take next when they land on your page.? Put it first.? Make that step VERY obvious, with graphics and text.
You don?t need a Facebook welcome page as fancy as Flyte?s.? But you should have a custom page that takes into account his four points.? Your page will start getting more Likes when you do.
