Archos has today introduced a new device to their range in the form of the Archos Gamepad, which has been created as a stand alone handheld gaming console, running Google?s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system.
Archos has designed their GamePad to include a 7 inch capacitive screen, physical control buttons together with analog sticks, and automatic game recognition and mapping tools.
The Archos GamePad will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and quad-core Mali 400 MP GPU, and will have access Google Play and be Google certified, says Archos. Henri Crohas, ARCHOS Founder and CEO explains:
?Thanks to the mapping and automatic game recognition systems included on the GamePad, we already have over a thousand android games compatible with the ARCHOS GamePad?s physical controls, including back catalog titles that originally didn?t include physical controls,?
Archos has also be in contact with the leading Android game developers to make sure games are compatible with the physical buttons and sticks. With regards pricing Archos has stated the GamePad will be priced under ?150 ($188) within Europe, but as yet has to revealed worldwide distribution or prices. As more information becomes available we will keep you updated as always.
