On The Eve Of Sony?s Big PlayStation Announcement, PS4 Price And Release Date Revealed? [REPORT]

According to an anonymous source that spoke to Kotaku, the PlayStation 4, codename Orbis, will be coming out in November and will have two different price points, versions costing $429 and $529. These numbers and release date are preliminary and Sony will provide real answers during its launch event in New York on Wednesday. Price points for the two versions of the console could change as the year goes on and Sony could announce retail prices in June at E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is the video game industry?s largest trade event.

Many features of the PS4 have been discussed, but much about the new console remains unknown. While the controller will feature a touchpad in the center, there have been several prototype photos that have leaked online, each varying slightly. One of the more interesting aspects of the PS4 that was discussed by Kotaku?s source is the integration of smartphones for use with it. According to the source, the PS4 can be controlled using a smartphone or tablet. There also will be a chat function and the ability to buy games from your phone that will automatically download on the PS4. Each console will include a Playstation Eye, says the source, which could allow users to interact with one another and could also include a ?spectator? system that allows users to watch a friend play a videogame.

The social aspects of the PS4 match previous reports of Gaikai, the streaming videogame company that Sony purchased in July 2012, having registered website domains centered on PlayStation Cloud, reports IGN. The cloud function of the PS4 was also reported on by the Wall Street Journal, which stated that the new system would be able to stream PlayStation 3 games. Sony is investing heavily in the social component of the PS4, with the WSJ reporting the new system will include options to post achievements on Facebook, upload videos to YouTube and possibly compete against other players across different platforms.

Some information regarding the PS4, such as the controller and emphasis on social media and streaming support, seems confirmed, but there is still plenty of speculation surrounding Sony?s new system and there should be answers, and maybe some surprises, on Wednesday.

Pressure mounts on Israel over Palestinian prisoner fast

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails declared a one-day fast on Tuesday in solidarity with four inmates whose hunger strike has fuelled anti-Israel protests in the occupied West Bank.

Samer al-Issawi, one of the four Palestinians who have been on hunger strike, has been refusing food, intermittently, for more than 200 days. His family says his health has deteriorated sharply.

The prisoners' campaign for better conditions and against detention without trial has touched off violent protests over the past several weeks outside an Israeli military prison and in West Bank towns.

In the Gaza Strip, the Islamic Jihad group said a truce with Israel that ended eight days of fighting in November could unravel if any hunger striker died.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club, which looks after the welfare of inmates and their families, said 800 prisoners were taking part in the day-long fast.

Issawi was among 1,027 jailed Palestinians freed by Israel in 2011 in exchange for Gilad Shalit, a soldier who was abducted on the Gaza border by Hamas, the Islamist militant group that now rules the enclave.

Issawi and Ayman Sharawneh, who has also been on hunger strike, are among 14 Palestinians who have been re-arrested by Israel since being released in the Shalit trade.

Ofir Gendelman, a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, wrote on Twitter that Issawi and Sharawneh were detained "because they violated the terms of the Shalit deal by returning to illegal activities which pose a threat".

INTERNATIONAL CONCERN

Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said he had been in contact with Israel and urged it to release the men. He said Egypt, which helped mediate the Shalit prisoner swap and also negotiated an end to a Palestinian mass hunger strike in Israeli jails last year, was trying to end the new protest.

Israel has defused previous long-term hunger strikes among the some 4,700 Palestinians in its jails by agreeing to release individuals or deporting them to Gaza - a prospect rejected by the four protesters, who hail from Jerusalem and the West Bank.

The Quartet of Middle East negotiators - the United States, Russia, the United Nations and European Union - have expressed concern at the hunger strike.

In a statement on Monday, France's Foreign Ministry urged Israel "to be sensitive to the risk of a tragic outcome and to take appropriate measures as a matter of urgency".

The statement said "administrative detention must remain an exceptional measure of limited duration and be carried out with due regard for fundamental safeguards".

Israel holds some Palestinians in "administrative detention" based on evidence presented in a closed military court. It says the practice pre-empts militant attacks against it while keeping its counter-intelligence sources and tactics secret.

There were some 178 administrative detainees in Israeli jails in January, down from a high of just over 300 around the time of another Palestinian hunger strike campaign last spring, according to Palestinian rights group Addameer.

"The battle waged by me and by my heroic colleagues ... is everyone's battle, the battle of the Palestinian people against the occupation and its prisons," Issawi said in a message conveyed to the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners last week.

Germany: Grabowsee Church

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)

And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.

Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.

Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!

Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature.

But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.

Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find.

And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.

Coast Guard identifies cause of cruise ship fire

ATLANTA (AP) ? Now that investigators have determined the origins of the engine-room fire that paralyzed a Carnival cruise ship at sea for five days, they will try to learn more about the cause, the crew's response, and why the ship was disabled for so long.

A Coast Guard official said Monday that a leak in a fuel oil return line caused the engine-room fire that disabled the Carnival Triumph in the Gulf of Mexico, leaving 4,200 people without power or working toilets for five days.

Cmdr. Teresa Hatfield addressed the finding in a conference call with reporters. She estimated that the investigation of the disabled ship would take six months.

Hatfield said the Bahamas ? where the ship is registered, or flagged ? is leading the investigation, with the Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board representing U.S. interests in the probe. The vessel was in international waters at the time of the incident.

She said investigators have been with the massive 14-story vessel since it arrived Thursday in Mobile, Ala. They have interviewed passengers and crew, and forensic analysis has been performed on the ship.

She said the crew responded appropriately to the fire. "They did a very good job," she said.

In an email after Monday's conference call, Coast Guard spokesman Carlos Diaz described the oil return line that leaked as stretching from the ship's No. 6 engine to the fuel tank.

A Carnival Cruise Lines spokesman said in an email Monday that the company agrees with the Coast Guard's findings about the fire's source.

Cruise industry expert Andrew Coggins, a former Navy commander who was a chief engineer and is now a professor at Pace University in New York, said the fire could potentially have been serious.

"The problem is the oil's under pressure," he said. "What happens in the case of a fuel oil leak where you have a fire like that is it leaks in such a way that it sprays out in a mist. In the engine room you have many hot surfaces, so once the mist hits a hot surface it will flash into flame."

If the crew hadn't reacted quickly and the fire suppression system hadn't worked properly, he said, "the fire from the engine room would have eventually burned through to other parts of the ship." Engine room fires that can't be suppressed generally result in the loss of the entire ship, he said.

The Triumph left Galveston, Texas, on Feb. 7 for a four-day trip to Mexico. The fire paralyzed the ship early Feb. 10, leaving it adrift in the Gulf of Mexico until tugboats towed it to Mobile. Passengers described harsh conditions on board: overflowing toilets, long lines for food, foul odors and tent cities for sleeping on deck.

Hatfield said investigators from the Coast Guard and NTSB would stay with the ship until about the end of the week, then continue work at their respective offices. She said the investigation will look further at the cause of the fire and the crew's response, as well as why the ship was disabled for so long.

Last week, a team of six NTSB investigators were in Mobile trying to determine the cause of the fire. An NTSB spokesman said then that the agency could take information developed from the probe and use it to make recommendations for improving cruise ship safety.

Passengers interviewed after the cruise complained about confusion in the immediate aftermath of the fire about whether to evacuate their rooms as well as poor communication about what was happening.

Carnival CEO Gerry Cahill apologized to passengers late last week.

Nick Clegg?s Letter from the Leader: ?From Eastleigh to Africa ? and back again!?

Nick?s latest weekly missive focuses on two places: his visits as party leader to the Lib Dem by-election campaign in Eastleigh, and his visit as Deputy Prime Minister to Mozambique and Ethiopia to focus on ?the three Ts? ? tax, transparency and trade. Here?s his letter in full?

libdem letter from nick clegg

Like so many of you, I?ve been to Eastleigh this week. I was there to visit a local college with our excellent candidate Mike Thornton on Monday, and after a brief stop off to see the kids, I headed straight there again this afternoon after landing at Heathrow from Ethiopia!

I?ve spent the latter part of the week in Mozambique and Ethiopia leading a government delegation as part of this year?s UK Presidency of the G8, where we are making ?the three T?s? ? tax, transparency and trade ? the focus of discussion.

This was my first visit to Sub-Saharan Africa as Deputy Prime Minister, but I was lucky enough to have Lynne Featherstone with me to guide me through it all. Lynne?s already gained such knowledge of ?her patch? in her short time at the Department for International Development, she has already met her second Ethiopian Prime Minister!

Nick and Lynne at a Mozambique school

In meetings with leaders from both countries I particularly highlighted the need for global action on tax avoidance and evasion. Developing countries have suffered from this for years but the developed world is now waking up too. Big companies can move quicker and easier than national tax laws and they end up playing us off against each other. Only by working together ? developed and developing nations ? can we make sure that tax is properly collected and spent on the public services we all need, whatever country we live in.

I also took a business delegation with me because the opportunity for British businesses in Africa are enormous. Seven out of the ten fastest growing economies in the world are on the continent and it?s part of the job as a Government Minister to make sure they are getting the best access to these booming emerging markets.

And no visit to Africa would be complete without looking at some of the aid projects that could only happen with the generosity of British taxpayers. I wish all of you could have come with Lynne and me to the schools we went to in Mozambique and Ethiopia to see the Girls Education Challenge Fund, which I launched in 2011, helping girls realise their dreams of becoming doctors, lawyers, engineers and accountants. I know that at times when we?re asking people to make great sacrifices at home, this can all seem very remote and, to some people who object to money we spend overseas, unfair. But I firmly believe that well-targeted aid is not only the right thing to do, but also in our own self interest as it enhances prosperity and diminishes the forces of violence and extremism.

But all that feels a long way from Eastleigh!

This by-election is critically important to our Party. I am hugely grateful to every one of you that has given up time over the last two weeks to deliver leaflets, canvass, make phone calls, help at the campaign HQ, or in any other way.

Victoria Marsom, our excellent Campaign Manager in Eastleigh, tells me that we?re getting more helpers than in any by-election for a decade! So thank you.

But one thing is clear, this will be a very close election between the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives. So please do keep on coming to Eastleigh ? every leaflet, every call, every penny, really could make the difference.

You can also help us win by donating now. Every pound will go directly to the campaign.

I hope to see many of you there next week!

Best wishes,

Nick Clegg

Worker: Attackers targeted expatriates in Nigeria

BAUCHI, Nigeria (AP) ? Gunmen in Nigeria's northeast who kidnapped seven foreign workers Sunday let the Nigerians go.

A construction worker, who insisted on anonymity because he is not allowed to speak to press, said the Nigerian household staff members at the residence were left unharmed.

The attackers came from the back of building, as security guarded the front, he said.

Authorities say one British citizen, one Greek, one Italian, three Lebanese and one Filipino were abducted Saturday evening.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the abductions, though Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north has been under attack by the radical Islamic sect known as Boko Haram.

Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is sacrilege" in the Hausa language of Nigeria's north, has been blamed for other foreign kidnappings over the past year.
